It's true: you don't always get what you pay for; but you NEVER get what you don't pay for. ALWAYS follow the money.
An employment agency gets its money from the employer - about 30% of YOUR annual salary. Who do you think the agency is most concerned about - you ($0) or the employer ($8,000 and up)?

Worse yet, if you get a job not listed with them, they get no fee - why would they help you get a job (no matter how good) that they would not get a fat fee for? That's why they'll never teach you how to identify and obtain unadvertised jobs - even though they are 80% better. You'll be limited to their private listings.

Job boards get paid by advertising the opening. They get no money for placing YOU. It doesn't matter what format the job board takes:
- Newspaper classified - help wanted (paper or online)
- Online classified like Craigslist
- Government Employment Office
- Online job board like Monster, HotJobs, etc.
It's the listing they focus on, not you.
